Release the report titled “Industry 5.0 – A Growth Strategy for MSMEs”

On 13 May 2026, Prof. Ashwani Mahajan released our research report titled “Industry 5.0 – A Growth Strategy for MSMEs.”
This research was conducted with participation from members of our Industry 5.0 community.
Key Highlights
Industry 5.0 is the latest edition of the Industrial Revolution emphasizing sustainability, human-robot collaboration and resilience.
As the major employment generator in India, the MSME sector is increasingly becoming a focus area for policymakers.
The report examines the adoption potential of Industry 5.0 among MSMEs in Tamil Nadu. Field-visit to Sattur Matchworks cluster and analyzing hundreds of automobile mfg processes make the research more applied.
The research included discussions with 22 thought leaders from industry, academia, MSMEs, and associations, along with a review of nearly 50 reports and research papers.
The study identifies challenges in Industry 5.0 adoption and presents actionable recommendations. Key ones are
1.Establish community R&D labs in MSME clusters.
2.Create MSME–Academia–Innovation Hubs.
3.Publish practical Industry 4.0/5.0 case studies for MSMEs.

The report also documents several openly available case studies that can help MSMEs understand practical implementation pathways.

We strongly believe that Industry 5.0 can help MSMEs move higher up the value chain by strengthening innovation, design, research, and development in addition to pure-play manufacturing. Note that our recommendations are aimed to enable this.

As illustrated by Stan Shih’s Smile Curve, MSMEs accelerated business growth in the global market increasingly depends on value creation across the product lifecycle.
